The state Supreme Court is being asked to sort out a complicated adoption case that involves a Carthage couple and a child born to a woman from Guatemala who was in this country illegally.
A lower court had terminated the parental rights of the Guatemalan woman and granted an adoption request from Seth and Melinda Moser of Carthage. The birth mother has spent two years in prison for immigration violations and is being allowed to stay in the country until custody of her child is determined. An appeals court has overturned the lower court decision terminating her parental rights.
