The Royals overcame an early 3-0 deficit in the second inning by beating the Detroit Tigers 4-3 in 12 innings after Willie Bloomquist hit his third home run of the season and Joakim Soria pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his 36th save.

Sean O’Sullivan is still looking for his first win as a starter with the Royals, but pitched strong outside of that second inning. He went seven innings. Kila Ka’aihue hit his second home run in as many games and added another RBI with a double in the seventh inning.

Phillip Humber picked up the win, pitching three innings of scoreless ball while allowing two hits and two walks. In the 10th and 11th inning the Tigers threatened but were unable to score.
