Chris Carpenter stepped up when the Cardinals needed a win bad and outpitched NL Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum, as the Cardianls snapped a five-game losing streak by beating the San Francisco Giants 5-1 Saturday night. Carpenter is now 14-4 on the season.
Carpenter gave up just one run in 7.1 innings and got some offensive help from the new guy Pedro Feliz. Feliz had two hits and two RBIs, giving him four hits in two games for the Cards since coming over in a trade with Houston Thursday.
Lincecum falls to 11-8 and was 5-0 with a 1.54 ERA in five starts against the Cardinals, but he got tagged for four runs on six hits and two walks in just 5.1 innings. You can bet Lincecum will be out of the running for the Cy Young this year. He’s fallen into a slump in his last four starts. Lincecum has allowed 28 hits and 18 runs in 19 1/3 innings.
