The Kansas City Royals will limp home after a long 2-7 road trip to Oakland, Seattle and Anaheim where the offense managed just 17 runs in the nine games. Now things don’t get any better for the Royals who are tied for last place with Cleveland.
The Royals must face the Yankees this weekend and right off the bat they get C.C. Sabathia who is 14-5 with a 3.14 ERA. New York is in for a fight in the AL East leading Tampa Bay by just 1.5 games and the Red Sox have closed to five back.
Bruce Chen, who I must say has been a surprise for the Royals this year is 7-5 with a 4.44 ERA. Kyle Davies will pitch on Friday and Ned Yost has yet to announce starters for the final two games.
After Sabathia, the Royals will face youngster Dustin Moseley who is 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA filling in for the injured Andy Pettite. Phil Hughes and A.J. Burnett round out the series for New York.
No Zack Greinke for this series. He dueled with Jeff Weaver of Anaheim on Wednesday with each pitcher giving up a run on six hits over eight innings in a no-decision for Greinke, but a 2-1 loss to the Angels in 10 innings. Bobby Abreu hit a walk off homer to win it. This past series, Abreu pummeled KC pitching.
In the previous six meetings, Abreu was 6 for 27, a .222 average with one RBI. In these last three games, batting in the leadoff spot, Abreu went 7 for 12 (.583) with two homers and five RBI.
