Colby Rasmus hit his first career grand slam and Adam Wainwright gave up two hits in seven innings as the Cardinals completed the three game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds with a 6-1 win.

Rasmus’ slam came in the fifth inning off Reds’ starter Bronson Arroyo. It was his 19th homer of the season and it came on a blast to straight away centerfield.  Rasmus told Fox Sports after the game, “They (the Reds) may have awoken a sleeping giant.”

Skip Schumaker and Yadier Molina each drove in a run in the seventh. For Wainwright, his ERA drops to 1.99 as he struck out four. Of the other 17 outs he recorded, 14 of them came on groundouts.  Wainwright moves to 17-6.

With the win, the Cardinals move one game ahead of the Reds in the standings and will have Thursday off before returning home to face the Cubs in a weekend series.
