Tony LaRussa shuffled up his lineup a bit, hoping to wake up the bats who have struggled in losing six of their last seven. The results were immediate in a 9-3 win over Seattle Monday night at Busch Stadium.
LaRussa moved struggling Matt Holliday to the number two spot and dropped Ryan Ludwick to the fourth spot. Ludwick went 2 for 4 with four RBIs including a three run homer in the first off Seattle starter Luke French. Holliday was 2 for 4 and Albert Pujols 3 for 3. Tony LaRussa talks about the lineup change and Ludwick’s quick start.
Adam Wainwright tossed seven innings for his 9th win giving up three runs including a homer to Ichiro, but he also struck out six. Wainwright talks about his outing.
The Cardinals moved to one game behind the Reds who were off. Yesterday the Cardinals signed Jeff Suppan. He will start Tuesday night against Ryan Rowland-Smith. It will be Suppan’s first start with the club since he pitched game four of the 2006 World Series. Suppan is 0-2 with a 7.84 ERA which came with Milwaukee, but Suppan was 9-2 with a 3.22 ERA in 21 starts at Busch Stadium.
