The St. Louis Cardinals won their seventh of eight series to start the baseball season winning three out of four from Cincinnati with a 6-0 win on Sunday. The Cardinals finish this homestand 6-1.

The starting pitching, in particular Chris Carpenter, continues to dominate the NL Central. Carpenter pitched seven shutout innings allowing two hits and a walk while striking out eight. Carpenter is 4-0.

The bats were swinging better this series since they returned home. David Freese had an unbelievable weekend. After a career high six RBI against Atlanta on Thursday which included his first home run, the third basemen hit two homers this weekend including one in the second inning of Aaron Harang. Freese batted .500 against the Reds and in this homestand hit .480 with three homers and 11 RBI.

With score 3-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Albert Pujols provided the dagger with a bases clearing double. Pujols is hitting .340 this season with 24 RBI. The Cardinals begin a road series against Philadelphia, perhaps and early playoff preview for October.
