Gov. Nixon speaks to Democrats at Hannibal Days

Missouri Democrats have gathered in northeast Missouri for Hannibal Days, their traditional kick-off of the political season.

Governor Nixon, prior to a brunch this morning, touted the accomplishments of his administration during a very difficult budget year. Nixon said that state government had gotten much done in his first year in office; approving a jobs bill, a program to make it easier for small businesses to secure loans, full funding of public schools and a freeze on college tuition. He said he was proud to balance the state budget without raising taxes. [Read more...]

The Missouri State Bears did not score a field goal in the final 7:28 and let a tie game get away from them in the final two minutes Friday night in a 73-63 MVC Tournament Quarterfinal loss to Wichita State at Scottrade Center.

Zack Attack is back

Cy Young Award winner Zack Greinke needed just 27 pitches to get through three scoreless innings. He retired nine of 10 batters, allowing only a single. Greinke struck out three as 19 of 27 pitches went for strikes as the Royals beat the Rangers 4-2.

Penny’s slow start hurts Cardinals

Brad Penny allowed three runs on six hits over two innings in his debut, but after a shaky first inning with a couple of bloop hits thrown in, Penny settled down in his second inning, but the Cardinals come up short in a 7-3 final to the Mets.
