The calendar is a tricky thing sometimes. Since the late 1840s historians have been quibbling over whether this country went one entire day without any leadership whatsoever, or whether a Missourian filled that gap and became the shortest-termed President in American history.  Four  years after that controversy this same man became Vice-President, but that’s generally forgotten. David Rice Atchison always said he slept through most of his term as President of the United States.  The confusing series of circumstances leads many to wonder if he really missed anything.
