Missouri has one of the nation’s worst records in startups of new businesses. Concerns that the state is falling farther and farther behind in the competition for jobs is producing a new legislative effort. Heated debate on health care in Washington spills over into Missouri House

Debate on the quality of health care legislation in Washington gets boisterous and disruptive in the Missouri House as the body advances a constitutional amendment prohibiting anyone from being compelled to participate in any health care system.

Royals sign Hochevar…he gives up HR to Ankiel

The Kansas City Royals signed pitchers Luke Hochevar and Carlos Rosa. Hochevar spent some time at AAA Omaha where he tore up minor league hitters. He was 6-13 with a 6.55 ERA last year in 25 starts. Rosa was a September call up with a 3.38 ERA in seven relief appearances. The Royals are still need to sign Billy Butler and Alberto Callaspo.

Backes key in Blues return to NHL schedule

Blues forward David Backes, fresh off returning from a silver medal performance for Team USA on Sunday, assisted on a goal and later added his 14th of the season as the Blues pick up a 5-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes to start a six game road trip.

Audit points to mishandling of funds by Office of Administration

The Office of Administration under the past three governors has been misappropriating certain funds according to the State Auditor’s Office.

State Auditor Susan Montee says the Office of Administration has essentially played “a shell game” in regards to taking money from eleven different state programs.

Montee says over the past two years and as far back as 2002, transfers have been made from three state scholarship, two state funds to benefit veterans’ homes and cemeteries, as well as services to domestic violence victims, alcohol and drug rehabilitation services, an endowment trust, workers’ compensation, and early childhood development, education and care.
