The Missouri Compromise enabled Missouri to start preparing to become a state and draw up a constitution. But the battle between the politicians in the south and the politicians of the north over Missouri was not to end with that compromise. And much to the chagrin of many Missouri leaders, it would take a second compromise to get into the union.
