Jamie McMurray cruised the streets of Jeff City and made a pit stop at the Capitol

What a great idea! Have Jamie McMurray drive his #1 car from the Jefferson City airport to the South Lawn of the Capitol steps. So, I perched myself up on the steps on the west side of the Capitol and caught McMurray coming off Highway 54 heading east on Main Street.  Click here to see the video.

The thing that amazed me is how bright his car looked from a half mile away. I was trying to hold the camera steady because I was laughing watching McMurray go around the Capitol because there is no heat or windows in a race car so there was McMurray with big gloves and a hat you would expect someone from Fargo N.D. to be wearing tooling around downtown Jefferson City.

McMurray became the first Missourian to win the Daytona 500 and while he hasn’t lived here since 1997, he still holds Missouri and his hometown of Joplin close to his heart. For his efforts, Governor Jay Nixon honored McMurray for his efforts with a proclamation.

Jamie wasn’t driving the car that he won with in Daytona. That remains on display in Florida for the year. After his visit with fans and the media outside, McMurray went inside to the Senate and House of Representatives before hopping back in his car and to the airport where he takes off for Las Vegas where NASCAR races this week.
