Medical help biggest need in Haiti

Orthopedic surgeons and medical supplies. As the details about what is needed most in the impoverished country of Haiti after the damage done by a massive earthquake there, the Kansas-City nonprofit group One5 Foundation says there are a lot of crushing wounds.

Brad Gautney, Medical Director for One5 Foundation  has finally made it to Port-au-Prince, Haiti with a team of about 15 to assess the situation there. Gautney says they’re asking for volunteers with medical experience first, and after that there will be a demand for others as well.

Minnesota native T.J. Oshie scored 26 seconds into the third period to break a scoreless tie as the Blues won their season high third in a row, a 1-0 win over the Minnesota Wild. Goalie Chris Mason had a relatively quiet evening as he got great support on in front of him while making 19 saves.

Social Services’ Children’s Division now nationally accredited

Social Services is lauded for gaining national accreditation. The Children’s Division is recognized for its polices and operating procedures. To achieve national accreditation — a status shared by only five other states — Missouri’s child welfare system was measured against more than 800 national standards of best practice. Children’s Division director Paula Neese says this might cause some to take another look at DSS, especially for adoption services.

Former Wizards star headed to soccer HOF

The Kansas City Wizards have their first Hall of Famer. Preki, the team’s star who helped the Wizards to their only MLS title in 2000 was was elected into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.  Preki, who’s full name is Predrag Radosavljević. He is the only player to have won the league MVP Award and scoring title twice, doing it once in 1997 and again in 2003 when he was 40. Preki is now the head coach of Toronto FC of the MLS.

SBU’s home winning streak over at 38

The #16 SBU Bearcats lost at home for the first time in nearly three years, as the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks won 99-91, despite at 36 point, 20 rebound performance from senior Matt Roger. The loss snapped the Bearcats’ 38-game home court winning streak, which dated back to February 2007. Fort Hays State was last team to defeat the Bearcats in the Meyer Sports Center, a 74-64 win over the Bearcats late in Rogers’ freshman season.
