State education officials are proposing that one of the state’s 523 school districts be closed and absorbed by one of its neighboring districts. State Commissioner of Education Chris Nicastro meets with leaders of the Wellston and Normandy School Districts in St. Louis County, Monday night, to discuss having the troubled Wellston School District closed at the end of the current school year.

Jim Morris, Director of Public Information with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), says Wellston has been struggling for quite some time and was the first district to be taken over by the state. [click to continue…]

National Guard gets first drill sergeant

The National Guard has something it has never had in its modern era—a drill sergeant.
Staff Sergeant Tyler Ritenour of Maysville is a fulltime maintenance technician for the 1128th Support Company in Marshall. He’s a National Guard soldier in addition to being a civilian employee of the Guard.

MoDOT looking for more improvements for Amtrak

An improvement in mid-Missouri has greatly improved Amtrak service across the state. Now, the Department of Transportation wants to go farther and faster with passenger rail service.

Bills hold on for win over Chiefs

Matt Cassell passed for 224 yards but was intercepted 4 times as the Buffalo Bills downed the Kansas City Chiefs 16-10 Sunday afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
