SBU junior quarterback Steve Gachette was named the D2Football.com Offensive Player of the Year among Independent schools and was one of six Bearcats honored by the website. Gachette completed 61.6% of his passes for 3015 yards and a school record 28 touchdowns, while he ran for 975 net yards and 8 touchdowns on the season. This was the second straight season he has earned this honor.
Truman names Nesbitt as new football coach
Former Truman State alum and Central Missouri co-defensive coordinator Gregg Nesbitt was introduced as the 22nd head coach in Truman State history on Monday. Nesbitt was also a one-time top high school football coach in Missouri.
7th ranked SBU picks up easy win
The seventh-ranked SBU Bearcats closed out the non-conference portion of their schedule by thumping the Central Bible College Spartans 99-58. The win extended the Bearcats’ home court winning streak to 35 games, the second longest active stretch in Division II.
Cardinals add Penny to their starting five
The St. Louis Cardinals have reached an agreement with 31 year old pitcher Brad Penny. It will be a one year deal with a base of seven million and incentives built in that could make it as high as nine million. Last year he spent time between Boston and San Francisco. His best years were 06 and 07 with the Dodgers where he went 16-9 and 16-4. Last season he was 11-9 with a 4.88 ERA, but was 4-1 with a 2.59 ERA with the Giants who were also bidding for Penny.
Central Missouri, Truman St. ranked in final VB polls
The Central Missouri volleyball team was ranked 5th in the final AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) poll of the 2009 season. The Jennies went 34-5 after losing in the Regional Championship Finals to West Texas A & M. Truman State just got in at #25 after the Bulldogs finished their season at 24-13.
