It appears Larry Johnson, the former Chiefs running back cut by the team last week is headed to Cincinnati. Several news outlets are reporting that Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis is expected to us Johnson as the team’s fourth running back. How fitting.
Johnson, who is my opinion is a head case is heading to a team that was full of off the field incidents in the past. So much so, the Bengal stripes on their helmets could have been mistaken for prison stripes.
However, many feel this is a good move by Cincy. Their leading rusher, Cedric Benson (a former Bears’ head case) strained his hip and they could be looking for some insurance as they close in on the NFC North title at 7-2.
The brief history on Johnson, when I say head case. In 2008, coach Herm Edwards benched him for three straight games for violating team rules and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him a fourth game for violating the league’s player conduct policy.
Johnson was then sentenced to two years probation after pleading guilty to two counts of disturbing the peace. One woman accused him of throwing a drink on her and another said he had pushed her head at a Kansas City night club. Let’s hope Johnson keeps his head clear and turns his career around after a record setting 2006, he was never the same runner for the Chiefs.
