The late former Royals owner Ewing Kauffman is one of 10 executives, and former Royals and Cardinals manager Whitey Herzon, are among those were selected again for consideration into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

Kauffman was nominated  by a 12-member Veterans Committee that again includes current Royals owner David Glass. Herzog is a finalist for the managers/umpire category. The results will be announced December 7th at baseball’s winter meetings.

Free Agency began in baseball yesterday in Chicago at the GM meetings. Matt Holliday’s agent Scott Boras told Cardinals GM John Mozeliak, if they want Holliday they better be prepared to pay up. Boras told the St. Louis Post Dispatch, “I don’t know what a mid-market franchise is. That’s like a midsize aircraft carrier, they all have the potential to have an economic bomb. If you’re drawing 3.3 million fans and you’re averaging $50 a fan coming in, I just don’t know that mid-market term.”

If the Cardinals do sign Holliday, then they’ll say they need to raise ticket prices and who ends up hurting? You the average fan who already drops three to four hundred dollars to take your family of four to one game.

Sometimes, as a disgruntled fan, you have to ask yourself if it is really worth it?  I must be grumpy, but that Boras really ticks me off.  When he comes out and makes those comments, it becomes a war between player and team, and really  in the end the player gets richer, the team get richer and the foolish fans run out and gobble up tickets and bobbleheads and jerseys and then continue to click the turnstiles 3.3 million times a season in St. Louis while  left paying for that contract when ticket prices go up.  Then again, you could get off the cheap way and be a Royals’ fan, but what fun is that?
