The Missouri women’s soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the Big 12 Championship with a 3-2 overtime win over Kansas in San Antonio. Senior Kristin Andrighetto scored twice for the Tigers and sophomore Jessie Crabtree added a goal as the Tigers’ avenged their only conference loss, a 3-2 final at Kansas, in the regular season finale last Friday.
Missouri State men’s soccer grabs MVC title
The 22nd-ranked Missouri State men’s soccer team (12-3-2, 7-1-1) clinched the Missouri Valley Conference regular season title with a 1-0 win over Evansville at Plaster Field Wednesday afternoon. It is the third regular season title for the Bears, having won it in 1999 and 1997. The win is the Bears seventh straight, the longest winning streak since 2004.
Chambers adds “vertical explosion” to Chiefs
The Chiefs added yet another veteran wide receiver when they acquired nine year veteran Chris Chambers by claiming him off waivers after he was cut by San Diego. Chambers was a pro bowler in 2005 but this season had just nine catches in his first seven games with the Chargers. Head Coach Todd Haley comments on why Chambers will be a good edition to this team.
Haley has been watching Chambers ever since he was drafted. He likes his speed as well as Chambers ability to leap for passes. Haley felt Chambers gave San Diego a true deep threat option. Something he is hoping now comes to Kansas City.
Missouri Western falls to Creighton
The Missouri Western men’s basketball team out rebounded Division I Creighton University by 16 but turned the ball over 22 times falling 94-69. The Griffons were led by Justin Taylor as he had 14 points off the bench while Marcus Rhodes added 13.
High school football results
First round of the high school football playoffs were last night across the state in Class 1-5. Some of the highlights from last night…Last year’s finalist in Class 1, Thayer and Tipton advanced to Sectionals. Class 2 champ Clark County moves on to the second round. Class 3 champ Cardinal Ritter lost their first round game to Priory. Class 4 finalist from 2008, Helias moves on as well as Webb City, the Class 4 defending champs. Same for Class 5, the champs Hazelwood East and runner up Raytown South advance to sectionals. Class 6 sectionals are tomorrow night. Lee’s Summit at 4-6 playing Blue Springs.
