Missouri State University President Michael Nietzel is leaving his post at the end of next year.

The 62-year-old Nietzel, who became the school’s ninth president in July of 2005, has informed the university’s Board of Governors that he will step down on December 31st of 2010.

Nietzel cites a combination of personal and professional reasons for the decision, but has not gone into any detail, other than to say he has no definite plans after his departure next year. He admitted it was a difficult decision that he reached in August.
