Governor Jay Nixon has announced his choice to head up the Missouri Department of Economic Development. He’s David Kerr, who holds the post of Commerce Secretary of Kansas – the Kansas equivalent of Missouri Economic Development Director.

Kerr, who is scheduled to move into his new job on November 9th, was appointed as Kansas Secretary of Commerce in April of 2007 by then-Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, the current U.S. Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Prior to serving as Commerce Secretary, Kerr was president of AT&T Kansas for four years. He joined AT&T in 1979, working for more than 15 years in executive management positions in St. Louis for SBC/AT&T before moving to Dallas in 1997 to become vice president for access marketing for SBC.

Kerr replaces Linda Martinez, who resigned in September. The appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.
