Greinke named by Sporting News as AL Pitcher of the Year

Happy 26th birthday to Zack Greinke. He was selected as the Sporting News American League Pitcher of the Year. The Royals pitcher went 16-8 with a 2.16 ERA accounting for nearly 25% of the Royals wins this season. Tim Lincecum won in the National League. Cy Young Award winners are announced November 17th. Bret Saberhagen was honored by the Sporting News in 1989.

MU pres. Forsee and Gov. Nixon pick Black and Gold squads

Missouri Basketball coach Mike Anderson hosted Missouri Governor Jay Nixon and University of Missouri System President Gary Forsee last night at Mizzou Arena for the Black & Gold Game Draft. Forsee and Nixon are honorary coaches for their selected squads.

Missouri voters could face numerous issues next year

Missourians could be faced with a lot of issues on the November ballot next year.

The Secretary of State’s office has approved two more initiative petitions to be circulated in Missouri. One seeks to further tighten restrictions on stem cell research and prohibit the state legislature or local governments from spending taxpayer money on any abortion research or services. The second would define “person” in the Missouri Constitution as beginning from biological development, granting all rights conveyed by the Constitution.

Blues prove they have a long way to go

The St. Louis Blues had the best record in the NHL after January 2nd last year, and went from the bottom of the Western Conference to grabbing a playoff spot last year. There was much hope this team was on it’s way to going further in the playoffs and ultimately making a run at the Stanley Cup. Last night’s 5-1 loss at Pittsburgh showed the Blues still have a way to go.

Longtime Sedalia Smith-Cotton baseball coach dies

Longtime Smith-Cotton baseball coach Ross Dey died early Tuesday morning at University Hospital in Columbia after a long battle with Melanoma cancer.
