Discussions have begun of ways to let Missourians buy tickets for a second big bucks multi-state lottery game. Missouri is one of more than 30 states where the Powerball game is played. The Mega-Millions game is played in a dozen states, but they are among the nation’s largest states. Mega Millions has paid out the largest jackpot in American history–390-million dollars.

State lottery director Larry Jansen says the issue came up at a meeting of officials from several state lotteries. He says a lot of hurdles have to be cleared if Mega Millions tickets are to be sold here, too. “There are a lot of computer systems involved, and you’ve got 40-some jurisdictions that need to agree on some rules and regulations and so forth,” he says.

There’s no timetable involved. It’s not even certain the idea is workable. If it is, the tickets would not go on sale until next year.
