The magic number stays at one as the Cardinals lose to the Rockies 2-1.  The Redbirds did not get any help from the Cubs, as they beat the Giants to also keep St. Louis from taking the National League Central crown.

Colorado would jump on the board first, scoring a run in the first.  But after that, Cardinals starter Chris Carpenter would take control, going seven innings and allowing just that one run on five hits while striking out six.

Colorado starter Aaron Cook was also up to the challenge as he would go five innings, giving up no runs and just four hits.

The Cards were held scoreless until the seventh when Ryan Ludwick hit a lead-off home run to tie the game.

That score would hold until the bottom of the ninth, when Cards reliever Trever Miller walked the lead-off man.  He was replaced by Kyle McClellan who would give up a base hit and then a sacrifice fly to score the winning run for Colorado.

The Cardinals have yet to beat the Rockies this season.

Same two teams tonight as Adam Wainwright goes after win number 19 against the Rockies Ubaldo Jimenez.  Game time is 7:10.
