Mizzou Looking To Go 3-0 On Season

The Mizzou Tigers take their perfect 8-0 mark against teams from the Football Championship Subdivision into their game this afternoon at Faurot Field against the Furman Paladins.

The Tigers are coming off a come from behind 27-20 win last Saturday night at home against Bowling Green.  In that game, Mizzou had to rally from a 3rd-quarter 20-6 deficit. The Tigers would go on to score 21 straight points in the final 16 minutes of the game to get the win.  Mizzou running back Derrick Washington led the offense with 120 yards rushing.  For the defense, linebacker Sean Weatherspoon had 14 tackles.  He now leads the conference in tackles and is tied for 12th nationally.

Furman is also 2-0 on the season, after defeating conference foe Chattanooga last week 38-20. That followed a season-opening 45-21 home win over Presbyterian. The Paladins feature an offense that leads the FCS in 3rd-down conversions, as well as ranking in the 20 in five other major offensive categories.

Kick off is set for 1:00.

Rams On The Road To Play Redskins

For the second season in a row, the St. Louis Rams will make the trip this weekend to Maryland and Fed Ex Field to play the Washington Redskins.

The Rams and new head coach Steve Spagnuolo are coming off a beating last Sunday at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks 28-0.  It was not a good week one for the Redskins either as they lost their opener to the New York Giants at the Meadowlands, 23 to 17.

St. Louis comes into the game in the middle of an awful 11 game regular game losing streak that dates back to last season.  The last regular season win was week 7 last season against Dallas.  But, the week before that, the Rams did go on the road and beat Washington, 19-17.

St. Louis linebacker James Laurinaitis will be trying to repeat his performance of last week where he had 14 tackles and one fumble recovery.

The Rams offense will be trying to find some consistency as Stephen Jackson only had 67 yards rushing on 16 carries and Marc Bulger was 17 of 36 for 191 yards.

Kick off is set for noon St. Louis time.

Chiefs Open At Home Against Raiders

It will be the first home game of the season for the Kansas City Chiefs tomorrow afternoon at Arrowhead as they take one of their most hated opponents, the Oakland Raiders.  This will be the 101st time these two teams will meet.

The Chiefs are coming off a close game last Sunday in Baltimore where the game was not decided until the fourth quarter as the Ravens beat the Chiefs 38-24.   Brodie Croyle played well in the absence of starting quarterback Matt Cassel, who still remains questionable for this game.  Croyle was 16 of 24 for 177 yards with two touchdown passes.

The Raiders are coming off a close loss on Monday Night Football to San Diego, 24-20.

Last season, the two teams split their two games as the Raiders beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead in week 2, 23 to 8, while in week 13, the Chiefs beat the Raiders in Oakland, 20-13, for one of their two wins on the season.

This is expected to be a close game as the last 12 times these two rivals have met, the games have been decided by an average of less than three points.

Kansas City will also commemorate their 50th season in the NFL with several events before and during the game and also at halftime.  Kick off for tomorrow’s game will be at noon.

Edwards Ready For Chase

Carl Edwards will start from the number five spot tomorrow afternoon at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in the first race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship.

Edwards would like nothing better than to end a winless regular season by taking the checkered flag and the early lead in the Chase standings.

He comes into the Chase in ninth place, 40 points behind leader Mark Martin.

The green flag will drop on the Sylvania 300 just after noon tomorrow.

Blues All Over Avanlanche

The pre-season action continues for the St. Louis Blues tonight at 7:00 at the Scottrade Center as they will take on the Dallas Stars.  Last night, six different Blues would score as the Blues beat the Colorado Avalanche 6-2.

Nick Drazenovic, Paul Kariya, Alex Steen, T.J. Oshie, B. J. Crombeen and Derek Armstrong all had goals while Keith Tkachuk had two assists.

Blues goalie TyConklin made 21 saves through two periods before being replace by Jake Allen.

The Blues will be on the road tomorrow night for their next preseason game in Denver against the Colorado Avalanche.

The Note will open the regular season in Stockholm, Sweden on Friday, October 2nd against the Detroit Red Wings.
