A big night for Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright on the mound and at the plate, leads St. Louis to a 9 to 2 win over San Diego.  Wainwright would throw seven shutout innings, while scattering eight hits and striking out three.

He would also help himself at the plate as he would score the first run of the game by blasting his second home run of the season in the third inning.  The Cards would add another run in the inning when Albert Pujols drove in Skip Schumaker who had doubled, on a fielders choice.

In the next inning, Jadier Molina would score on a single by Brendan Ryan.  The Cards would add four in the fifth on RBI hits from Matt Holliday, Ryan Ludwick and Jadier Molina.

St. Louis would add one run in the seventh and eighth innings thanks to RBI double from Mark DeRosa and Matt Holliday.  Holliday had two doubles in the game and three RBI’s.

With the win, Wainwright becomes the first 14 game winner in the National League.  Game two of the three game set is tonight at Busch with Joel Pinero getting the start for the Cards against the Padres Tim Stauffer.  Game time is 6:15.
