The Detroit Tigers pounded out 16 hits as they downed the Kansas City Royals 10-3 Saturday night at Comerica Park.Both teams scored twice in the 1st inning.

The Royals struck first as Billy Butler smacked his 14th home run of the season with Mitch Maier scoring ahead of him.

The Tigers strung together 4 hits in the bottom of the 1st to even the score at 2. They went ahead 3-2 when Ramon Santiago belted his 7th home run of the season. They scored another run in the 3rd to up the score to 4-2.

Detroit scored twice more in the 5th, chasing KC starter and losing pitcher Luke Hochevar (6-6). Among the runs in the inning: A solo home run by Carlos Guillen, his 19th round tripper of the season.

Kansas City scored in the 6th on a solo homer by Brayan Pena, but that was all the scoring the Royals could muster.

The Tigers cemented their victory with a run in the 6th and another in the 7th on a home run by Alex Avila, and a two-run shot by Miguel Cabrera in the 8th to hand starter Edwin Jackson (9-5) his 9th win of the season.

The Royals and Tigers complete their weekend series Sunday afternoon at Comerica Park, with Kyle Davies (4-8) going to the mound for KC against Detroit’s Armando Galarrago (6-10).
