Steve Spagnuolo starts off his time as the head coach of the St. Louis Rams starts with a win last night over the New York Jets, 23 to 20. The Rams would get on the board first thanks to a 48 yard field goal from Josh Brown. New York would answer with a field goal of their own and at the end of one quarter it was all tied at three.

In the second quarter, the Jets would take the lead as Thomas Jones ran in for a touchdown from one yard out. The Rams would answer with two drives of 58 and 63 yards that would result in Josh Brown kicking field goals from 34 and 39 yards out. So at halftime, the Rams trailed 10 to 9.

In the second half, the Rams would waste no time as on their first possession running back Samkon Gado would score on a 77 yard run. Later in the quarter, the Jets would get another field goal to make the score 16 to 13 at the end of three quarters.

In the fourth, New York would strike on a 50 yard touchdown pass to regain the lead, 20 to 16. For a team that went two and 14 last season, this is where they might have folded. Not so, as St. Louis quarterback Keith Null would hit Sean Walker on a 13 yard touchdown pass to close out the scoring and put the Rams up for good 23 to 20.

Not a bad night for Marc Bulger who was four for four for 77 yards passing. He was sacked three times. Backup QB Brock Berlin was knocked out of the game in the third quarter. No word at this time as to the extent of the injury. Fourth string QB Keith Null replaced Berlin and was two for two with the TD pass.

The Rams were led on the ground by Samkon Gado who had 93 yards rushing and the one touchdown. Steven Jackson carried the ball two time for 15 yards.

The Rams will return to the Edward Jones Dome for their next preseason game next Friday night against the Atlanta Falcons.
