The new Cardinals continue to get it done as St. Louis starts off the weekend with a six to four win over Pittsburgh Friday night.

Matt Holliday continued to be red hot at the plate and started off the game with a two run home run in the first.  Mark DeRosa broke out of a 0 for 14 slump with a solo home run in the fourth inning.  In the seventh, another hitless streak came to an end, as Khalil Greene stopped an 0 for 19 run with a double that scored Julio Lugo.

The Cardinals would take the lead in the eighth after Matt Holliday, would had singled, stolen a base, and advanced to third on a bad throw, scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Ludwick.  The Cards were not done scoring as in the ninth, as Colby Rasmus would drive in Skip Schumacher on a sacrifice fly.

Chris Carpenter did not have his best stuff, as he would give up four runs and nine hits over eight innings of work.  Ryan Franklin would work the ninth for his 25 th save of the season.

Game two of the three game series is tonight with Adam Wainwright going after win number 13 for the Cardinals.  Charlie Morton gets the start for Pittsburgh.  Game time is 6:05.
