In a move I was complaining about for a couple of weeks, the Royals have finally recalled starting pitcher Kyle Davies from AAA Omaha and have designated Sidney Ponson for assignment.

Two weeks ago on my Press Box Podcast , I complained to my buddies Steve and Brent that I couldn’t understand why the Royals were continuing to start Ponson and Bruce Chen who at the time during that 10 game losing streak were a combined 1-11 while Davies was tearing up AAA hitters.

Ponson was 1-7 with a 7.36 ERA in 14 games, including nine starts.  The 25 year old Davies  opened the season in the rotation but was sent down on June 20 after going 3-7 with a 5.76 ERA in 14 starts.   At Omaha, he was 4-2 with a 2.14 ERA in eight starts at Omaha.   The Royals will stick with Chen who is 0-6 with a 5.73 ERA, but is starting to pitch better.
