The Kansas City Royals have still not beaten the Tampa Bay Rays this season.  Last night, the Rays would score three runs in the first inning on a home run by Carlos Pena on their way to an 8 to 2 win over the Royals.  Kansas City starter Sidney Ponson would only make it to the fifth inning, giving up seven earned runs on eight hits.  After the first inning home run, he did not allow another run until the fourth when he gave up extra base hits to Pat Burrell and Jason Bartlett.  In the fifth, Ponson would give up two more runs before being replaced by Robinson Tejeda, would give up one more run before getting out of the inning.  Roman Colon would give up a home run to the Rays Dioner Navarro to lead off the eighth inning.  Alberto Callaspo would score both of the Royals runs on a fielders choice in the second and on a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning.  Ponson is now one and seven on the season with an ERA of 7.36. The Royals finish the month of July with just seven wins.  Game two of the four game series is this afternoon as Bruce Chen, still looking for his first win of the season,  gets the start for the Royals against the Rays Jeff Niemann, who will be going after his 10 th win of the year.  Game time is 3:10.
