There was almost a rain out of the rain out.  However, the Cardinals and Nationals finally got this game from May 3 rd in.  After a one hour and fifteen minute delay and the game finally getting called after six and a half innings, the Cardinals beat DC 4-1.

Adam Wainwright sat through the rain delay to pitch the full six innings.  The game was finally called before the bottom of the seventh when an inch of water covered the infield.  Wainwright struck out seven while giving up eight hits.

Rick Ankiel provided some pop hitting just his sixth homer of the year in the second inning to give the Cardinals an early 2-0 lead off starter Collin Balester.  It was Ankiel’s first home run since June 19 th at Kansas City, a span of over 80 at-bats.

Skip Schumaker had two doubles with a run scored and RBI.  Mark DeRosa played first for Albert Pujols who was given the day off.
