The Royals lost both games of their double header with the Los Angeles Angels as the pitching staff gave up leads in both games.  The Royals see their losing streak reach eight games following 8-5 and 10-2 losses Tuesday.

In the first game, Sidney Ponson saw his record drop to 1-6 and his ERA move to 7.63 after his offense rallied from a 3-0 and 4-1 deficit early to take a 5-4 lead.  In the sixth inning, Ponson gave up a solo home run to Mike Napoli to lead off the inning and gave way to Ron Mahay after a single. Mahay walked two batters and gave up a sac fly, then loaded the bases with a walk, before Ramon Colon got the last out.

The Angels weren’t done.  In the eighth, Colon gave up two more insurance runs to put the game out of reach.

In the night game, Bruce Chen fell to 0-5.  After being spotted a two run lead, Chen gave up two runs in the third and another in the fifth.  He left the game trailing 3-2 and while he pitched better than he has in the past, the bullpen never gave the offense a chance to come back.

A seven run, seventh inning blew the game open as Juan Cruz and Robinson Tejada were victimized with three earned runs apiece.  Cruz loaded the bases with two singles and a walk before Tejada was called upon.  He gave up a triple to Erick Aybar that cleared the bases.  Aybar later scored on a double by Bobby Abreu.  After a one out walk, Howie Kendrick drove in two runs with a double and the seventh run scored on a throwing error by first basemen Billy Butler, who committed his fifth error of the year.

In the two games, David DeJesus went a combined 3 for 5 in both games and Jose Guillen who just a day ago said he should pay for all the fans’ tickets because of his poor play recently drove in three runs over the two games.

The Royals have lost eight in a row and are just a half game ahead of Cleveland for fifth in the American League Central.
