Ryan Ludwick hit two, two run home runs off Cubs’ starter Randy Wells and Adam Wainwright pitched eight innings as the Cardinals split their day-night doubleheader with Chicago taking the night cap 4-2.

Ludwick’s first homer came in the first with two outs after Albert Pujols grounded into a double play with runners on first and second and nobody out.  Ludwick’s second came in the sixth.  Ludwick’s average is now .264.  He came into the series hitting .241.  It was also his 14th and 15th homers of the year.

Each time Ludwick put two on the board for St. Louis, the Cubs would come back with a run of their own off Wainwright who allowed the two runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five.  Wainwright earned his 10th win of the year.

Ryan Franklin picked up the save striking out the side with all three hitters caught looking.  Franklin now has 21 saves in 22 opportunities with an ERA of 0.79.

St. Louis heads into the break up 2.5 games on Milwaukee and 3.5 on the Cubs.
