Two men suspected in a series of bank robberies have been charged. 28-year-old Alan Wolfe of Fulton and 18-year-old Michael Leak of Columbia are alleged to have been involved in a conspiracy to commit the robberies between July 2nd and 9th.

The hold-ups took place in Winigan, Clarence, and Holden. The most recent robbery led to a shootout with police as a deputy sheriff in Johnson County spotted a Buick LeSabre believed to have been used as a getaway car and tried to stop the vehicle. The Holden police chief joined the chase. Both the deputy’s vehicle and the police chief’s cruiser were hit by bullets, but no one was hurt.

The Buick was later found engulfed in flames in Chilhowee. A stolen flatbed truck was found a short time after that near Boonville, partially submerged in the Missouri River.

Leak was arrested Thursday night at a hotel in Columbia. Wolfe was arrested Friday.
