Mark DeRosa is on the disabled list less than two weeks after the St. Louis Cardinals acquired him in a trade with Cleveland.  An MRI on his left wrist shows that he has a partially torn tendon sheath.

DeRosa got hurt on a swing against Giants’ pitcher Randy Johnson on June 30th.  He’s played in just three games and was 0 for 9 in a Cardinal uniform.  What’s aggravating was on Sunday, DeRosa said he was fine and Cardinals’ trainer Barry Weinberg said they wanted to do an MRI just to double check and make sure everything was fine.

Then this comes out that his injury is a more serious than they led on earlier in the week.  DeRosa said he knew it was more serious than just a strain when he first hurt his wrist.  What’s the point of keeping the severity of the injury under wraps?

Anyway, the Cardinals called up Nick Stavinoha to replace DeRosa.  They also optioned infielder Tyler Greene to Triple-A Memphis and recalled infielder Brian Barden who will platoon with Joe Thurston at third through the All-Star break.
