Gil Meche looked better as he has been battling a tired arm.  Meche went six innings and allowed three runs, just two earned, but the bats were held in check as the Royals lose two of three from Minnesota with Wednesday afternoon’s 5-1 loss.

Meche gave up a home run to Michael Cuddyear in the second and an error by Alberto Callaspo led to a run in the third.  In the sixth inning the Twins rallied for another run after two outs and would add two more runs in the eighth after two outs.  The Twins came up with timely hits.

The Royals on the other hand managed just one run, but had 12 hits.  Manager Trey Hillman said the Royals just couldn’t bunch their hits together.

Shortstop Mike Aviles will be lost for the season needing elbow surgery.  He’s been the on the DL since late May and it will take nine to 12 month to recover.  Aviles was hitting just .183 with one homer this season in 36 games after having a breakout year last year when Aviles hit .325 with 10 homers in 102 games as a rookie.
