Cardinals Slip Past Detroit

The St. Louis Cardinals notched a second straight win, knocking off the Detroit Tigers 4-3 at Busch Stadium Wednesday night.

Colby Rasmus had three hits and two RBI, while Yadier Molina also had three hits and a solo home run.

Todd Wellemeyer picked up the win, scattering six hits, two walks and two runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Ryan Franklin tossed the ninth for his 16th save on the season.

The Cardinals, who have won five of the last seven, will seek the series sweep tonight. Joel Pineiro starts for St. Louis against Rick Porcello.

Hillman, LaRussa on All-Star Staffs

Kansas City manager Trey Hillman and St. Louis skipper Tony LaRussa have been named to the coaching staffs for their respective leagues for the 2009 All-Star Game, to be played at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on July 14.

LaRussa will be part of the NL staff headed up by Philadelphia Phillies manager Charlie Manuel. Joining them will be Dodgers manager Joe Torre. La Russa and Torre have St. Louis ties as the former has amassed the most wins of any Cardinals manager in history, and the latter represented St. Louis in the Midsummer Classic four times as a player in addition to managing the team from 1990-1995.

The AL squad will be led by Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon who named Hillman on of his assitants along with Seattle Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu.
