The Royals continue to roll.  Their winning streak is now at five games after a three run first inning helped support starter Sidney Ponson who picked up his first win of the year in a 9-1 win over Seattle.

Ponson was backed with an 8-run lead through the first four innings.  The Royals got a big two out single from Mike Jacobs in the first inning that drove in two runs after Mark Teahen picked up an RBI on a double play ground out.

Teahen homered in the 4 th off Mariner’s starter Carlos Silva who didn’t finish the inning and gave up six earned runs.  Teahen and Jacobs each drove in three runs.

Ponson allowed eight hits and one walk while striking out one.  With his first win, Ponson lowered his ERA to 5.91 from 7.17 at the start of the game.  This was a must win for Ponson, because Luke Hochevar is making his sixth starter at AAA Omaha tonight and he is 5-0 with an ERA under 1.20.  Had Ponson struggled again, I would have expected a call-up for Hochever sooner rather than later.
