The Cardinals used a four run fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie as they won this afternoon at Busch Stadium by a 5-2 final over Pittsburgh.  Todd Wellemeyer got the win with Ryan Franklin getting the save.

In that fifth  inning Jason LaRue homered and both Albert Pujols and Ryan Ludwick were hit by pitches after Pirates starting pitcher Ross Ohlendor gave up one out singles to Skip Schumaker and Colby Rasmus.  Chris Duncan hit a sac fly and Khalil Greene singled home Pujols.

Todd Wellemeyer seems to be settling in after early season struggles.  He pitched seven innings and gave up two runs on four hits with three walks while striking out four.  How about this for the team that blew 30 saves opportunities last year.  Ryan Franklin closed out the game with his 9 th save…most in the National League.
