President Obama in Missouri on 100th day

President Obama marks his 100th day in office with a visit to Missouri.

Obama will hold a town hall meeting at Fox High School in Arnold, south of St. Louis. It is a familiar venue for Obama. He visited Fox High School during the 2008 presidential campaign and gave a speech at Fox High School. Democrats in Missouri are thrilled that Obama has chosen to mark the historic 100th day by coming to Missouri. They tell the Missourinet that the president chose Arnold, because it reflects the economic problems that are plaguing most of the nation.

Another reason Obama might have chosen Missouri is his close relationship with Sen. McCaskill who is traveling with the president on Air Force One. They and the rest of the presidential entourage will be greeted by Governor Nixon and other Missouri Democrats at Lambert Field in St. Louis. McCaskill and Nixon will be among the guests on stage with the president when he delivers his remarks and takes questions today at the high school in Arnold.

The Missourinet’s Steve Walsh is at the scene and will be filing reports. He talked with Managing Editor Brent Martin about the set up in Arnold, saying security is tight and a crowd is gathering.

Meche leaves early with stiff back in Royals’ loss

Gil Meche left in the middle of a four-run 4 th inning after his back stiffened up and the Royals went on the lose 8-1 in the second game of their four game series with Toronto.  Meche should be OK, but he’s certainly frustrated.

After the game, Meche said his back issues have been frustrating because he’s never had to deal with this in the past.  Meche said his arm felt great, but because he couldn’t use his hips, he wasn’t following through the way he needed.

Meche gave up back to back doubles, and was down 2-1, but had two outs with a runner on third when he ran into trouble giving up a walk and four straight singles, before finally being lifted.  By then the damage was done with the Jays scoring four.  They would add three more runs in the 8 th off Horacio Ramirez who has turned into the mop up guy.

The Royals managed just one run on six hits.  That’s been an issue again this season for the Royals…the hot and cold offense.  There hasn’t been much consistency.

Gonzalez says goodbye to KC for now

Tony Gonzalez said his farewells to the place he built his Pro Bowl career.  Gonzalez met with the Kansas City media to thank the fans for all those wonderful years at Arrowhead Stadium.

Saying the fans deserved better last season,  Gonzalez said he’ll never forget walking in that tunnel and seeing 80,000 fans dressed in red.  While there is no doubt Gonzalez will be a shoe in for the Hall of Fame, he said that if he is ever fortunate to receive that honor, he pledged he would go into as a Chief.

Gonzalez holds no bitter feelings and says he will remain apart of Kansas City in the future, but he thinks this is a great situation for the Chiefs to get better and it lands him with an Atlanta team that for the time being is built to have success in the playoffs.

Gonzalez is 0-3 in career playoff games and hopes to one day play in the Super Bowl.  Click to listen to the highlights of Gonzalez’ comments from yesterday.

Cards bullpen lets one slip away

On Monday, Cardinals reliever Kyle McClellan battled out of a bases loaded jam in the 7 th .  On Tuesday, McClellan was called upon again and this time the Braves got to him as the Cardinals lost 2-1.

McClellan walked three batters in the inning 8 th , trying to protect a 1-0 lead for starter Kyle Lohse.  McClellan walked leadoff hitter Omar Infante who advanced to second on a sac bunt.  McClellan then walked Chipper Jones and struck out Casey Kotchman who McClellan got to fly out in the 7 th inning yesterday.  Then Jeff Francoeur walked and Matt Diaz delivered a single up the middle to score Infante and Jones.

That inning ruined a gutsy performance by Lohse who was battling a stomach ailment, but went out there and three six scoreless innings.  The Cardinal bats didn’t give much support to Lohse.  After Yadier Molina singled in the only run of the night, while extending his hitting streak to 12 games, the Cardinals managed just two more hits on the night.

Lohse was in line for his fourth win of the season which would have tied Pineiro.  Adam Wainwright returns to his home state where he’ll start the final game of this series tonight.

It’s still OK to say "Happy Holidays!"

It’s still going to be okay to wish somebody "Happy Holidays" next December. The State Senate has killed a bill requiring all government entities to refer to the "Christmas" holidays.

Backers of the bill that passed the House say the holidays should be known by their traditional names–Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Labor Day, New Year’s Day….and that people would not go on "Winter breaks." They should go on Christmas breaks.

Senator Rita Days of St.Louis thinks the bill is a waste of time and calls it "ridiculous." .

Senator Joan Bray of St. Louis called the bill "micromanaging"

Says and Bray threatened to amend other days into the bill–St. Patrick’s Day…Cinquo de Mayo, Pioneer Day, a Mormon observance, and others until Senate sponsor Delbert Scott of Lowry City set the bill aside.
