Two big innings is all the Cardinals needed yesterday.  They batted around in the 3 rd and 6 th innings scoring a combined nine runs in those two innings as they leave Arizona with a 12-7 win and series victory.

Ryan Ludwick hit his third homer of the season and picked up three RBIs.  Yadier Molina got on base safely five times with three singles and two walks plus two RBI.  Chris Duncan also drove in two runs and had a triple.

There was a lot offense in the game, but the Cardinals got good work out of reliever Chris Perez who pitched two innings scoreless innings after he was just called up from Memphis.  He struck out two and walk one.  He replaces Brad Thompson who was sent down after costing the Cardinals the game on Tuesday night.

The Cardinals flew to Chicago, but Chris Carpenter flew back to St. Louis where he’ll have an MRI today on his strained ribs.  Mitchell Boggs who called up from Memphis will take Carpenter’s spot in the rotation as Carpenter lands on the DL for the 9 th time in his career.  Carpenter is expected to miss 4 to 8 weeks.
