Mizzou’s Mike Anderson was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches Co-Coach of the Year on Sunday, sharing the award with former Memphis and current Kentucky Coach John Calipari.
Anderson received the award at the NABC’s national convention tonight after guiding Missouri to a school record 31 wins, a Big 12 Conference title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight.
Anderson’s Tigers were also the most improved team in the country this year, going from a 16-16 mark in 2007-08, to a 31-7 overall mark, which is an improvement of 15 wins. That 15-win improvement is the most in school history.
Missouri was the only program in this year’s Sweet 16 to have not received a single vote for the Preseason Top 25 poll and MU will finish among the Top 10 in the final Associated Press poll for just the fifth time in school history.
Anderson is the first Mizzou coach to win the NABC Coach of the Year award and is the first Tiger head coach to win a national coaching award since Norm Stewart won the Associated Press’ Coach of the Year honor in 1994.
