Miguel Olivo picked up four RBI and hit a three run homer, his fourth of the spring, if you include two during the World Baseball Classic.  Billy Butler had two hits and Alberto Callaspo and Mitch Maier tripled as the Royals tied the Rockies 9-9.

Starter Kyle Davies gave up five runs on six hits, with three homers, three walks and a wild pitch, to go along with two strikeouts in three innings. Yashuiko Yabuta went one inning, while striking out one and walking one.  Brandon Duckworth threw two scoreless innings, and Roman Colon let in the tying runs in the Rockies’ three-run ninth.

The Royals are also going to give 32 year old Sidney Ponson a chance to either start or work out of the bullpen.  They signed him to a minor league contract after pitching the Netherlands to a 3-2 win over the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic.

This could be a good insurance policy for the Royals rotation that has yet to come together.  Gil Meche seems to be nursing his away along hoping his back issues don’t flare up and Brian Bannister continues to struggle this spring.

The starting rotation will have Zach Greinke and Gil Meche along with Kyle Davies who has been pitching well up until yesterday’s outing.  Then Luke Hochevar.  After that, it could come down to Bannister, Ponson or even lefty Horacio Ramirez who could so some spot starting.

My bet is GM Dayton Moore may be banking on Ponson until Bannister figures out his issues.
