The Kansas City Chiefs announced that Clancy Pendergast is the defensive coordinator.  Pendergast came on board in mid-February after the Cardinals said his services were no longer needed as their defensive coordinator.

At the time Pendergast was added to Todd Haley’s staff he position wasn’t announced, but this is really no surprise.  Haley has a lot of respect for Pendergast, telling NFL.com, "Clancy was instrumental in the Arizona Cardinals’ run at the end of last season that led to our appearance in the Super Bowl…the fact that we have experience working together, along with Clancy’s previous experience working with Gary Gibbs, will be a big factor in our continuity as we move forward."

Gibbs was defensive coordinator at New Orleans prior to coming to Kansas City.  Arizona’s defense was suspect at times last season, they always had a knack for coming up with turnovers.  Last year, they led the league by recovering 17 fumbles.

Pendergast is a 17 year coaching vet with stop in Cleveland, Dallas, and Houston.
