Brendan Ryan has been bothered by a sore right wrist since the end of last season and during the winter, he had two flare ups that required rest.  Now as he started ramping up his batting practice, his wrist flared up again.

The plan now is to give Ryan a couple of days off and by the weekend he hopes to be ready for spring action.  Ryan told stlcardinals.com that if he had to play he could, but doesn’t want to push anything in February.

If his wrist doesn’t improve, he could get a cortisone shot.  Ryan is competing for the starting job at second base along with converted outfielder Skip Schumaker.
