Matt Eberflus, defensive coordinator for the University of Missouri is the second coach to leave Gary Pinkel’s staff as he accepts a position as linebackers coach of the Cleveland Browns.

Eberflus was hired yesterday by new Browns head coach Eric Mangini on Sunday.  Coach E spent the last eight years at the University of Missouri, where he was most recently associate head coach, defensive coordinator and safeties coach. Before that, Eberflus, a three-year starter at linebacker for Toledo, was an assistant with the Rockets under Pinkel.

Eberflus took a lot of criticism with the team going from 12-2 in 2007 to 9-4 last season after the defense gave up 27.5 points per game which ranked Mizzou 75th in the country.  That average was up by four points per game from that ’07 team.

Could Pinkel look to either long time assistants Cornell Ford (secondary coach who has been with Pinkel for 15 seasons), or Craig Kuligowski (d-line coach with Pinkel for 17 seasons) or will he look outside his program?
