Most of the Royals are in camp in Surprise, Arizona even though the full camp is not required to be there until later this week.  However, manager Trey Hillman was a no-show during the team’s first official workout this weekend.

Don’t look for any controversy here.  Hillman traveled with GM Dayton Moore who went to Houston to be with Moore’s ailing mother.  Hillman will not miss much time away from the team.  There are more important things in life than spring training ball in February.  Hillman was back on Sunday.

On the field though, projected starter Luke Hochevar faced live batters and was happy with his performance.  Hochevar jumping right in after his season ended in early August because of a rib cage injury.

Last year, Hochevar was 6-12 with a 5.51 ERA in 22 starts.  I would expect those numbers to improve if Hochevar can improve on his control.
