Cardinals’ general manager John Mozeliak and outfielder Rick Ankiel and his agent Scott Boras flew to Phoenix where they were supposed to meet with arbitrators, but instead met in a hotel lobby and worked things out.

They decided to split the difference on Ankiel’s contract offer and what the team was willing to pay and they agreed to a one year $2.825 million deal.  Now, why couldn’t they have saved the flight and got that taken care in Florida?

Pitchers and catchers report tomorrow with workouts scheduled for Sunday.  However, several position players are already in camp.  In fact, Ankiel was in Jupiter and flew out to Phoenix for the hearing.  He’s not heading back to Florida with a new one year deal.
