Emergency crews remain hard at work in southeast Missouri as they help residents who are still recovering from last week’s ice storm. Governor Jay Nixon, who toured the region over the weekend, says a big part of the effort is restoration of power.

Nixon is closely monitoring events in southeast Missouri. He says about 4,100 utility employees are working to restore power. In addition, approximately 260 National Guard members are patrolling the hard hit areas.

At last report, tens of thousands of Missouri homes and businesses were still without electricity and power crews don’t expect to have the lights and the heating fully restored until later in the week.
