Gunther motoring to Detroit Chiefs defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham is leaving to except the same job with the Detroit Lions.  Their new coach Jim Schwartz worked with Cunningham when they were both at Tennessee.

Cunningham was with the Titans for three years after he was fired as Chiefs head coach and before he came back to run the defense.  He’s now the third Chiefs coach to leave since GM Scott Pioli came in.

Secondary coach David Gibbs left for Houston, and special teams coordinator Mike Priefer headed to Denver.  I guess there is only one way to go for Detroit who finished 0-16.  If Gunther, who oversaw a 2-14 defense can maintain his record, the Lions can say they improved!

The rest of the Chiefs coaching staff is still in limbo.  I’m wondering if a decision is not being made because Pioli is interested in one of the coaches still in the Super Bowl?  One name being tossed around is Arizona offensive coordinator Tad Haley.  Could offensive line coach Russ Grimm be under consideration as well?
